Anton Henning (born 1964, Germany) is a painter whose diverse subjects and styles, from abstract to figurative, from pin-up girls to interiors, are plundered knowingly and ironically from art history and popular culture. Henning's work proposes a radical revision of the boundaries which we position around a work of art, executing virtually every technique and discipline: painting, drawing, photography, video, collage, sculpture and installations. The latter is often displayed as a fully furnished, wallpapered and carpeted room filled with paintings and sculptures. These display strategies which the artist has developed demonstrate a critical and subversive wit, disrupting the traditional hierarchies of genre.
