Art Brokerage: Irma Stern (1894-1966), a major South African artist who achieved national and international recognition in her lifetime. Subject matter includes exotic figures, portraits, lush landscapes and still life conveyed in a variety of media, ranging from oils and water colors to gouache and charcoal. The Irma Stern Museum (governed by the University of Cape Town and the Trustees of the Irma Stern Estate) was established in 1971 and is the house the artist lived in for almost four decades. Several of the rooms are furnished as she arranged them.
