KERRY JAMES MARSHALL BIOGRAFIE
 
Art Brokerage: Kerry James Marshall was born in 1955 in Birmingham, AL and his subject matter is African-American life, history and exploring the concept of black beauty in contrast to Western ideals. In his Vignette series the artist works in traditional pictorial genres, explicitly referencing various artistic styles and techniques as a part of his critical investigation of the pretensions of art history. Deploying nostalgia, Marshall meditates on beauty, love, romance, and harmony in the black experience. Work from this series is included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
