MILES METZGER BIOGRAFIE

Miles Metzger’s career began in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where he studied sculpture. There he learned the Spanish language and received acclamations for his talent. After returning to the United States, Metzger pioneered the mining and use of soapstone (Steatite) after discovering large deposits of carving quality Steatite in the California Sierra Nevada Mountain range in 1973. Metzger began showing his sculpture at fine art galleries in mid 1974. In 1989, Metzger opened a 7,000 sq. foot studio and showroom in Angels Camp, California followed by an open air studio showroom in the heart of the Napa Valley. Today Metzger sculpts in stone, bronze, wood, clay, steel, and synthetics. Metzger’s present day studio is located in the hills above the Napa Valley and locally his work can be seen on the wharf in San Francisco, (heroic bronze sea lion family), the Yountville Inn, Napa Valley, (major collection), and at Auberge du Soleil resort, Napa Valley, (bronze panther, “Cleopatra”). Metzger has designed over 100 bronze limited editions and hand carved over 1000 stone sculptures.
